Peer Review & Passage Comments by node
CivNode has two layers of feedback: structured peer review and inline passage comments. ## Passage comments Readers can leave comments attached to specific passages in your writing. They select a sentence or paragraph and write a note — a reaction, a question, a suggestion. The comment is anchored to that exact text. As the writer, you see these comments in the margin when you open your work. You can respond, resolve them, or leave them for later. **Enabling passage comments:** By default, passage comments are available on published works. You can disable them in your work settings if you prefer not to receive inline feedback. The setting is per-work — you might want comments on one piece and not another. **Leaving passage comments:** When you're reading someone else's published work, select any text and the comment option appears. Keep comments constructive. Specific observations are more useful than general praise — "this transition feels abrupt" is more actionable than "nice." ## Peer review Peer review is a more structured feedback format. You can request a review on any work, and another writer can provide a comprehensive response covering: - What works well - What could be stronger - Specific suggestions - Overall impression Reviews are visible to the writer and optionally to others. They're not ratings — there's no score, no ranking. Just one writer telling another writer what they noticed. ## Etiquette - Be specific. "I liked it" helps nobody. "The dialogue in the second scene feels natural but the exposition afterward slows down" helps. - Be honest. Kind honesty is better than kind lies. Writers improve from accurate feedback, not encouragement. - Don't rewrite. Point to what isn't working. Don't provide your version of how to fix it unless asked. - Receive gracefully. Not all feedback will be right. Some will be. The hardest feedback to hear is usually the most useful.
