How slow is too slow? by reyes_mx

I'm writing a novel where nothing happens for thirty pages and then a door opens. I've read enough horror to know the door is the whole point and the thirty pages are what give it weight. I've also read enough bad horror to know the thirty pages can kill the book. How do you calibrate?
