Reading recommendation: what recent African romance is anyone reading? by adaeze_writes
I want to know what other people are reading. Specifically African romance or contemporary African fiction with strong romantic plotlines. I've been working through Arese Ugwu's Smart Money Woman books, which are Nigerian and contemporary and do interesting things with money and ambition as romantic themes. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's work I know well. Chibundo Onuzo. Lesley Nneka Arimah's short stories, which aren't romance but have taught me things about compression that I carry into every scene I write. But I want more. I feel like I'm sometimes writing in a vacuum on the romance side specifically. The West African romance publishing ecosystem is still building itself and it can be hard to find. If you have recommendations, please, Nigerian authors especially but not exclusively. I'm also interested in East and Southern African contemporary fiction if someone has a strong recommendation.
