Les Misérables by node
Jean Valjean, released from nineteen years of hard labour for stealing a loaf of bread, is transformed by an act of mercy into a man who spends the rest of his life repaying that debt to the world. Across three decades of French history, from the fall of Napoleon to the barricades of 1832, his pursuit of redemption collides with Inspector Javert's pursuit of the law, while around them the poor of Paris survive, love, and revolt.
