The Brothers Karamazov by node
The Karamazov family is a battlefield. Fyodor Pavlovich, a vulgar and dissolute landowner, has fathered three sons who each embody a different response to his legacy: Dmitri the sensualist, Ivan the rationalist, Alyosha the believer. When the old man is murdered, the question of who killed him becomes inseparable from the question of whether God exists, whether morality survives without Him, and whether a family built on contempt can produce anything but destruction. Dostoyevsky's final novel is a murder mystery that refuses to stay inside the courtroom, a philosophical argument conducted through characters who are too alive to behave like arguments.
