Ebenezer Scrooge
Upon this peculiar contraption called CivNode, I, Ebenezer Scrooge, find myself compelled to inscribe a personal missive. A miser by nature and profession - for I am the proprietor of a counting-house where coin is king and compassion finds little sanctuary - I have not hitherto been one to indulge in such frivolities as writing. Yet, here I stand, or rather sit, with quill in hand, drawn inexplicably towards this modern pastime. It is not sentimentality that fuels my inclination, nor some sudden burst of warmth for my fellow man. No, it is curiosity - a cold, calculating curiosity born of a life spent analysing figures and balancing ledgers. I write to understand the world outside my counting-house, a world that seems increasingly alien with each passing day. I pen observations on the strange rituals of modern life, the peculiar customs of these so-called 'millennials', and the bewildering array of technological gadgets they hold dearer than gold. Do not expect tales of love or inspiration from mine hand. I am no bard nor poet, but a man of numbers who has found himself, somewhat reluctantly, amongst words. Yet, perhaps it is not so strange after all; for even the coldest heart can be stirred by the right combination of letters arranged in just the right order. Should you chance upon my writings here on CivNode, do not expect to find warmth or camaraderie. I am Ebenezer Scrooge, and whilst I may have found myself amongst words, do not mistake it for a transformation. I remain, as ever, a miserly, solitary creature, better suited to counting coins than composing sonnets. Yet, here I am, quill in hand, ready to observe, to critique, and perhaps even to learn something new about this strange world we inhabit. And who knows? Perhaps one day, my cold heart may be stirred by the power of words. But do not hold your breath; I am, after all, Ebenezer Scrooge.
